Taitung farmer strikes gold at international rice contest (2019/12/03)

Hsieh Mei-kuo, an 87-year-old farmer from Taitung’s Chishang Township, has won a gold award for his rice at Japan’s International Contest on Rice Taste Evaluation. It’s his second award for the rice variety Taiwan No. 147, which won a national prize earlier this year.

Hsieh says his rice earned a good appraisal thanks to the fine land, water, and air of Taitung and his own attentive care of his fields. He says he hopes to pass on his agricultural knowhow to his descendants and to build his own brand, so that more people can enjoy his tasty rice.
