DPP urges Kaohsiung residents to vote in Han Kuo-yo recall election (2020/06/03)

The DPP has also made its position clear ahead of Kaohsiung's election on June 6. Its Central Standing Committee passed a statement on Wednesday that urged Kaohsiung residents to, quote, use their ballot. President Tsai Ing-wen presided over the meeting in her capacity as the party's chairwoman.

The statement took issue with the KMT asking the mayor's supporters not to vote. It said that in doing so, the KMT was suppressing Taiwan's democratic development and failing to value a treasured right. Vice Premier Chen Chi-mai, who has Kaohsiung household registration, says that he will be casting a ballot on June 6. He said Kaohsiung's affairs should be decided by its people, and that giving up the ballot meant relinquishing the reins to someone else.
