    After decades-long wait, a farflung borough in Kaohsiung gets public transport (2019/04/15)

    The aging population of a remote borough in Kaohsiung rejoiced today at the return of public transportation. Public bus services to and from Chungliao Borough were canceled over 20 years ago due to low ridership. In the years without the bus service, getting around had been expensive for the area’s seniors. To serve their needs, Kaohsiung City and the Directorate General of Highways have launched a so-called “shuttle cab” route to the borough. The first bus to Qishan went out today, with tickets priced at an affordable 24 NT.

    Chungliao is a remote community in Kaohsiung’s Qishan District. Buses had serviced the area more than 20 years ago, but the stop was dropped due to low ridership.

    If you have a scooter, you use that. But it’s dangerous for seniors to drive scooters.

    In 2014, Kaohsiung City launched a “shuttle cab” service, using seven-seat vans as an alternative to buses in remote communities. Today Chungliao Borough was officially incorporated into the network, with a route that connects it to the Qishan Bus Station. The new route aims to solve the transport needs of local residents.

    The fare system is similar to that used for buses. Two fare zones is NT$24. More than two fare zones will cost the same as two zones. We want to adopt the fare system of buses, but to offer service comparable to a taxi.

    The service will run three days a week, with one outbound and inbound trip each day. Traveling the same distance by taxi costs NT$500 to NT$600, so the shuttle could mean big savings for the locals.

    等了20多年!"公車"終開進高市旗山中寮里

    位於偏鄉的高雄市旗山中寮里的居民引頸期盼,總算等到公車進入社區。公路總局和高雄市政府攜手合作,加開了一條從旗山運轉站到中寮里的公車路線,而且以箱型車當做公車,一趟只需付24塊錢,今天首航。

    “以前還有客運可以搭,後來沒有了”

    高雄旗山的中寮里地處偏僻,二十多年前還有客運,後來因為載客人數太少而被廢除。

    “自己有機車就騎,老人騎機車很危險耶。”

    從2014年開始,高雄市就用「小黃公車」,取代偏鄉的公車。現在新加入中寮里到旗山運轉站這條路線,解決居民行的問題。

    “收費的部份就比照公車,兩段就是24塊錢,超過兩段,事實上就是兩段的一個價錢,所以我們就希望說比照公車的一個收費,但是是計程車的一個服務。”

    目前行駛一週三班,一天來回各一個班次,以往居民搭計程車相同路線都要花上五六百塊,如今有了公車小黃,就可省下一些費用了。
