Premier vows more transport projects in East Coast (2021/04/08)
In the wake of the Taroko train crash, the mayors of Hualien and Taitung are demanding more funding for East Coast transport. They say the central government has not allocated enough to improve rail safety.

The Executive Yuan has already approved a budget of NT$46 billion for the double-track railway project between Hualien and Taitung. We will expand the project, increase the budget, and accelerate completion to address the transportation needs in the east.
Premier Su Tseng-chang pointed out that NT$46 billion was earmarked to connect Hualien and Taitung with a double-track electrified line. He also said the government had completed the South Link Highway and the Suhua Highway along the East Coast, all ahead of schedule. But the premier said he agreed that more could be done. He said he would order government ministries to look into raising the budget for transport projects along the East Coast.

蘇貞昌指示改善 460億讓花東鐵路雙軌電氣化
太魯閣號事故發生後，花東首長站出來喊話，要一條安全回家的路，還質疑前瞻計畫分給東部的鐵道預算太少，不過行政院長蘇貞昌在院會上強調，政院已經核定了"花東鐵路雙軌電氣化"。

“東部人是在用生命回家。這麼少的預算，到現在還沒辦法全線雙軌跟電氣化。”

“行政院特別已經核定了花東鐵路雙軌計畫，高達460億元，加大、加碼、加快，來改善東部交通上的需求。”
蘇貞昌也強調，公路方面，南迴公路、蘇花改前年底提前通車，鐵路方面，也核定花東鐵路雙軌電氣化，單軌變成雙軌後，更能夠增加座位、班次，縮短時間。
