Wu Shu-jhen and her son visit Chen Shui-bian in prison (2009/09/22)
Members of the former first family went to visit former President Chen Shui-bian at the Taipei Detention Center on Tuesday morning. The High Court will decide by Wednesday at the earliest on whether to continue to hold Chen in detention. Also on Wednesday Chen’s office announced that have sued US President Barack Obama in hopes that the United States will convene a military tribunal to try the former president.
Former first lady Wu Shu-jen and her son Chen Chih-chung boarded the high-speed rail and came to visit former President Chen Shui-bian at the Taipei Detention Center.

Former President Chen already doesn’t talk much about his own affairs. During the entire visit he was probably discussing his concern for his family, said DPP Legislator Gao Jyh-peng.
Wu hasn’t commented yet on the life imprisonment sentences handed down to her and her husband, but the office of the former president seems to be trying to squeeze its way through an unexpected legal loophole. They have decided to sue US President Barack Obama and US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in an effort to get the US to perform what they perceive as the superpower’s duty to hold a military tribunal for Chen.

The issue of Taiwan’s sovereignty has to do with Taiwan’s human rights. We hope that a military tribunal can be convened in the United States, said Jiang Jhih-ming, an aide to Chen.
Chen said that according to the San Francisco Peace Treaty, the United States is still an occupying power of Taiwan and that he is willing to go to the United States to testify. In the treaty, Japan renounced sovereignty over Taiwan but no successor nation was specified. At the time the Allied Powers, led by the United States, had control over Japan. Some independence activists see this as meaning that the United States still has control over Taiwan.
Chen’s current detention period expires on Friday and the High Court said it would hold a hearing by Wednesday at the earliest to decide whether to extend Chen’s detention. The High Court also gave the media a sneak peek of the facilities to be used during the trial, including a resting room for Wu and the corridor that Chen will use to enter the courtroom.

希望能在美國那邊召開軍事法庭
搬出舊金山和約，陳水扁說，美國對台灣其實還有軍事佔領權，要求美國軍事法庭重新審判扁案，甚至願意跨海到美國作證。因為條約中，日本宣佈放棄台灣殖民權，造成台灣主權未定。同盟國在美國的領導下，控制日本。而台灣目前一些獨立的動作，也意味著美國仍控制台灣。
另外，高等法院何時接審扁案？因為陳水扁的羈押期將在25日屆滿，高院最快在23日會開接押庭。也因此，高院提前開放法庭供媒體拍攝，包含吳淑珍未來的休息室，和陳前總統將借用的法官通道，全都透過鏡頭，預先讓民眾了解。
