Taiwan dials down power plants to tackle poor air quality (2018/11/08)

Air quality began to dive yesterday in Southern Taiwan due to easterly winds and poor conditions for the dispersal of pollutants. Today, poor air quality was seen across the entire western half of Taiwan. To improve conditions, the EPA has asked Taipower to reduce its electricity generation at three power plants.

The Central Weather Bureau expects northeasterly seasonal winds to strengthen tomorrow and carry away some of the atmospheric pollutants. But forecasters warn that air quality will not necessarily improve, because the winds have a good chance of sweeping in smog from northern China.
