Tsai administration agrees to handle military pension separate from civil servants and teachers
President Tsai Ing-wen has agreed to address military pensions separate from wider pension reforms associated with civil servants and teachers. This announcement along with other agreements not to reduce pensions for lower-ranking veterans has helped ease tensions ahead of a planned protest by veterans set for Armed Forces Day on September 3. Military carries out anti-invasion exercises sealing off Hseuhshan Tunnel
The military continued to hold its 5-day Han Kuang military exercises, sealing off the Hsuehshan Tunnel from early dawn until 6AM as part of an anti-invasion drill. Taiwanese souvenirs to be sold on Chinese e-commerce platform
Businesses specializing in the sale of specialty food gifts have seen a decline in sales volume due to a sharp drop in the number of Chinese tourists. New Magazine Takes Off
A new bimonthly magazine published by a group of six locals with an average age of 25 has taken off, with Japanese booksellers even coming in to make their own orders on the back of strong local sales numbers.

Flight Attendants from budget airline protest over suspension of operations in October
Nearly 40 flight attendants from budget carrier, V Air, protested and delivered a petition outside of Taipei City Government today. Typhoon Lionrock
The 10th tropical storm of the year, Lionrock intensified into a typhoon around midnight Tuesday. It’s currently tracking about 1,100 km northeast of Taiwan, with little likelihood of having a major impact on Taiwan.
