President says death penalty should be administered according to the law
The controversy over Justice Minister Wang Ching-feng’s opposition to approving the executions of death row inmates heated up Thursday. President Ma Ying-jeou said that if Wang wanted to commute death sentences, it would have to be based on a legal foundation. He also said it was too soon to push for abolition of the death penalty because of the difference of opinion on the issue in Taiwan.


Presidential Office spokesman Lo Chih-chiang expressed the president’s views on Wang’s stance at a press conference Thursday.

Taiwanese baker wins 2010 Bakery Masters competition in Paris
A Taiwanese baker has won the 2010 Bakery Masters competition in the bread competition for his bread made of millet wine and dried lichee. Wu Pao-chun defeated seven other bakers in the category to win the title and continue Taiwan’s success in international baking competitions. A baking team from Taiwan finished second in the Bakery World Cup in 2008.
