Taiwan to launch domestic island-hopping cruises on Aug. 2 (2020/06/29)

Taiwan is set to become the first country in the world to allow cruise ship services to resume after the pandemic. The government has teamed up with a travel agency to offer a four-day domestic island-hopping cruise. Genting Cruise Lines' Explorer Dream will depart on Aug. 2 from Keelung, with stops at Penghu and Kinmen or Matsu. Passengers will be able to enjoy Penghu's summer-long fireworks festival from onboard the ship.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says strict public health measures will be enforced on the cruise ship. The vessel will operate at half capacity, allowing only 1,800 people onboard. Twenty-two negative pressure rooms have been set up on the ship in case there is a need for them. This ship is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Keelung on Tuesday. Its crew members will disembark to undergo 14 days of self-isolation before the ship embarks on its new route.
