Pandemic drives traffic to Taiwan’s 1922 public hotline (2021/02/23)

The 1922 hotline is the Taiwan CDC's 24-hour information service for all matters related to communicable diseases. Since the start of the pandemic, the number of hotline calls has skyrocketed nearly 30-fold year-on-year. According to the hotline's contracted operator, Chunghwa Telecom, 1922 received 2.02 million calls between January 2020 and 2021. The greatest number of calls received in one day was 390.

The hotline traffic peaked six times over that period. So we say that the volume of calls is synchronized with the epidemic. Our average response rate was 85.4%.

One peak in call volume came last February, when Taiwan suspended the entry of Chinese nationals. Hotline calls spiked to their highest point in April 2020, during a COVID outbreak on a naval fleet. Then the number of calls dropped off with the slowing of the epidemic. But between December 2020 and the end of this January, the hotline was overwhelmed once again, due to a rise in imported cases and an outbreak at a Taoyuan hospital.

防疫專線1922忙翻! 整年接了202萬通電話

防疫科技國家隊功不可沒,像1922防疫專線因為總是在幕後默默付出,很容易被人忽略。中華電信統計,去年1月23號到今年1月底,總共接了202萬通電話,最高紀錄一天投入390人接電話。

“來話量總共有6次比較高峰,所以我們說1922來話量跟疫情是同步的。我們平均的應答率是達到85.4%。”

在去年2月中籍人士暫緩來台,一路到4月敦睦艦隊爆出疫情,來話量達到最高峰,雖然隨著疫情趨緩,來話量降低,但在去年底到今年初,疫情再起,加上部桃事件,1922又回到忙得不可開交的日子。
