No More Local Baby Bonuses (2018/07/12)

The Executive Yuan's new childcare subsidy program goes into effect in August. Currently NT$2,500 a month is paid to families with children aged under 2. Under the new program, that age is raised to 4. But now the Executive Yuan is also asking local governments to phase out any bonuses they offer, to keep it fair for parents elsewhere in Taiwan.

Currently, Taipei, Taoyuan, and Taichung are among the places that extend families their own baby bonuses. After August, they'll have to gradually phase it out. Taipei City Ko Wen-je responded that he couldn't promise to stop Taipei's own baby bonus program.
